NFL Weekly

Yup… that’s right… the Packers practically tied up the North Central division on Turkey Day… you knew it was going to happen.

favre for the win

Favre is making his last (at least we think) run one of the best in his career…

Packers vs Cowboys

This week, they face the Cowboys on Thursday… two 10-1 teams battling in the NFC… It’s going to be a tough game, but I think we can take them!

Two New TV Shows

Posted by Jake Good
on Nov 26, 07

So two new TV shows (that are casting) have sparked my interest… and for those who know me, know that I only watch The Office, The Real World (yeah, its a vice), and the NFL…

American Gladiators (NBC)

(a Honda Ruby Goldberg commercial to give you an idea)

Super Rubes (Discovery Channel)

Hell yeah…

Mac OS 10.5 Leopard

The time has come…

I’m up and running with Leopard

Leopard

So far so good, the one problem is application support. Seems as though only 50% of the apps work “somewhat” on Leopard, 10% work fully, and 40% don’t even work…

BeamBot Suicide

Posted by Jake Good
on Nov 18, 07

The story begins this evening when I was waiting for dinner and got a little bored… I decided to put together this BugBrain kit I’ve had for 2 years… so I started soldering… and I was doing a fine job.

Old School BugBrain

Went through and completed the soldering to hear a clank on the floor (and I swear a faint scream)… and trimet, the little bugger I built yesterday had collected JUST enough energy to throw himself over my desk edge…

Beam Bot Suicide

A sad day in robot history. He was a good bot, a young bot, a brave bot… Some say he gave children (or just me) joy for many years (or maybe one day)… I say he led a full life, one of great honor and dignity… Goodbye trimet, goodbye…

Friday Robot Treat

Posted by Jake Good
on Nov 16, 07

Headed over to Radioshack for a few tools and parts to make some robots… it’s a secret passion of mine and I wanted to spend a little cash (less than $50 actually) to get some tools and put together some robots I have had laying around…

Then I saw this little guy, a Hex Bug

Hex Bug - Bravo

He’s pretty neat! For $10 he walks along, has feelers that are bump sensors, and has a sound sensor on his rear that he reacts to… That’s a pretty powerful package for $10! Couldn’t resist…

So I got all of the tools that I needed and headed back home and built this:

Trimet

This is a trimet (from Make Magazine Volume 6) that is powered by a solar engine… Kinda cool. Took me about 45 minutes to fit everything together and make it nice and neat… The bugger really takes off in direct Texas sun! That’s for sure!

Yeah… my little treat for myself on a Friday!

IronRuby Hotness

So I’ve been following the IronRuby initiative since it’s inception… and have been tinkering around with the DLR and I must say. It’s advancing quite quickly and looking mighty tastey.

I have two ideas floating in my head.

1) Build infix expressions into the DLR using gppg (YACC + C#) and gplex (lex + C#)

2) Build MUMPS into the DLR…

O’Kane is chuckling in his morning tea about now… MUMPS in a Microsoft DLR runtime? heh

Visual Studio InstallFest

on Nov 09, 07

Straight from Chris Koenig’s blog….

To celebrate the upcoming RTM of Visual Studio 2008, we’re going to host a few “InstallFest” parties in conjunction with some of our local user groups. These parties will feature food, drink, Xbox and the opportunity for you to install Visual Studio 2008 right after it RTMs. AND, as a special incentive to “get your VS on”, for those of you that bring your computers to the party and install VS08 right there with us, we’ll send you a FREE copy of Visual Studio 2008 Professional in the mail (after the packaging is done, and we actually have something to send you).

Here’s a list of dates/times/locations for the upcoming events:

Dec 3rd - Tulsa, OK @ OSU Tulsa with the TDNUG

Dec 5th - Dallas, TX @ Intuit Headquarters with the NDDNUG

Dec 13th - Houston, TX @ Microsoft Office with HDNUG and NHDNUG

The parties will be a combination User Group end-of-the-year party and a happenin’ InstallFest - add Xbox 360s to the mix, and these parties are destined to become the geek event of the year :-)

Check back here often for more information on these events. I’ll be posting registration links soon as well as additional information about the events.

SO - clear your calendars and get ready for Visual Studio 2008!

DFW .Net Scene

Posted by Jake Good
on Nov 09, 07

So Cory is helping me get connected into the .Net scene here in the Dallas / Fort Worth area… for a VB guy he’s pretty well connected! :)

At any rate, I just wanted to let everyone know who might be stumbling onto this blog, that I’m the new guy in town and am going to stage a hostile takeover of the .Net scene in the DFW area.

Old guys and cowboys better start running, I shoot from the hip!

At any rate… as a gesture, I wanted to help Chris Koenig spread the word about the We are Microsoft - Charity Challenge Weekend

Interesting little file sharing site with no registration… with a few clicks you can share all kinds of files!

Btw, it’s the first site that I’ve been a part of that’s hit the front page of digg… DIGG IT!
