a "Jake Good" night

Posted by Jake Good
on Jan 29, 06

So last night was a good night… Greg and I called up some females, convinced them to meet us in Uptown at Bar Abilene.

Interesting side story: so at my company party two weekends ago (I’ve been paid not to blog about it, but fuck it)… I was having a blast, when this young girl barges her way up to the bar. I turned, noticed that she wanted a drink, ordered one for her… and pulled a classic move, I just up and left, told her to find me later. Well, she did. We ended up having a good time, exchanged numbers, and played phone tag with those uncomfortable voicemails. You know what I’m talking about, the … “Umm yeah, so call me back sometime.” types of voicemails. Her name was Anna.

Fast Foward to last night. So I did get a callback and Greg called the girl he met a few weekends previously (Allison) to meet up. It was all set up and ready to go!

We made it to Uptown, grabbed a booth, and started in on the whiskey. The bar started getting packed, neither girl was present and accounted for, and we were having a decent time (without them). Four girls busted in, sat across the bar, and scoped us out… it was Anna. They hopped on over, squeezed into the small booth (plus for Jake and Greg), and the night finally started!

Filled with drinks, good conversations, new friends, and crowded dance floors, I have to say that it was a success. She’s a super cool chick and I hope to get to know her better. We even conversed at 3am after we both got back to our own homes… It’s just too bad that Greg’s date, Allison had to flake out AGAIN (strike two).

We’ll see where this goes. Ted and I are heading out to Gluek’s on Friday, hopefully Anna shows up for a good time. I’ll keep you posted.

p.s. She’s a highschool English teacher (:: sings “Hot for Teacher” ::), hopefully not reading this blog… because we alls knows that them teachers learned me well in the world of Englishes.

I don’t really know why I found this quote to be so funny…

but I saw this post on Kate Moss making out with Jack Osbourne, tagged with a funny comment.

The Superficial…

“… Way to go Kate. Even if she tells people she wasn’t on drugs, nobody’s gonna believe her now. But whatever. The point is that she has terrible taste in men. You could stick her in a room with Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and the Kool-Aid Man, and five minutes later all you’d hear would be “Ohhhhhh Yeah!”…

hilarious.

Ahhh.. the power of svn.

I ssh into my shell, cd into my typo directory, and type:

svn update

Instant software update to trunk (849)

Just so happens, that user changes and migration wrecks some things. For example: since when does SHA1 and the same salt give out different hashes?

If you notice any weird changes or errors, let me know.

p.s. The comments now should remember your information, so no more hastle! Comment! Comment! Comment!

Christians are persecuted and oppressed?

Posted by Jake Good
on Jan 13, 06

I saw this little gem coming from a friend of mine… I had to respond. Vaughn, you’re an awesome guy… and a friend, but I have to speak my mind on this. Please understand that I’m taking this from the context that it’s spoken by the Christian community, rather than yourself as an individual…

For those Christians who feel persecuted
and oppressed in the godless atheistic western world:

"Blessed are ye when they shall revile you,
and persecute you, and speak all that is
evil against you,
untruly, for my sake:

Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is
very great in heaven.
For so they persecuted
the prophets that were before you."

(Matthew 5.11-12)

See, we'll have the last laugh ;-)

It really amazes me to think that Christians are persecuted and opppressed in the Atheistic Western World.

Where the fuck is this Atheistic Western World? Because I want a one way ticket to this place… In 2001, 78.5% of the US Population identified themselves as being Christian, with another 5.8% identifying with another kind of religion… That accounts for 243,094,812.414 of 288,368,698 people in the US. How can that many people be persecuted and oppressed? I could really derive some harsh conclusions and assumptions based on this fact… but I don’t want to oppress anyone. But I will say this, do the math, that’s 45,273,885.586 that can oppress and persecute 243,094,812.414 people, :: scratches chin ::.

The last line:

See, we'll have the last laugh ;-)

Where in Christianity does it say you should point down to “Hell” and laugh at your friends, loved ones, and fellow human beings? Essentially saying “I told you so.” Sounds very “Christian” to me.

In other news, Pat Robertson is a douche bag. Thank you very much.

(reminder: these are MY thoughts and opinions… and I’m more than happy to hear yours… and debate, as long as the ground rule is that we both listen and it doesn’t turn into a personal flame war.)

you know what really grinds my gears

When you go to a “Mexican” restaurant and order fajitas (spoken: fajeyetas)… and they only give you 3 tortillas and a ton of food.

You always need more tortillas, which just happen to be the cheapest thing they have in the restaurant… yet you always have the fixings left over.

That is all.

THE BOOK OF COOL

Where cool gets a whole new meaning… by Jake Good

This month’s movie review comes in with a DVD that isn’t as popular, not as visible, yet definitely ranks up on one of the coolest DVD sets out there.

THE BOOK OF COOL (http://www.bookofcool.com)

The premise is simple. Film hundreds of hours of people doing cool stuff, write a small book on how everyone else in the world can do said cool stuff, box it up in a very stylish box, and push it out to the masses. The title alone forces everyone’s curious kitten into action, THE BOOK OF COOL.

The box set comes with 3 DVDs, packed with over 9 hours of footage of cool stuff. So far, all I’ve said is cool stuff… the explanation will come shortly. A very colorful, 200+ page booklet features step-by-step detail on how to do most of the cool stuff featured in the footage. Upon waking up during my holiday vacation, which lasted a cool 4 days, I noticed on Boing Boing a review of a new DVD that’s making its way through the UK. Being the DVD buff that I am, I clicked on the link… and within minutes, whipped out my… credit card and sent the package on its way over the ocean.

Upon arrival, I was greeted with a black, slightly heavy, box. Delightful. I couldn’t wait home to try it on. I mean, place it in the Xbox… yeah.

Notice I still have yet to mention the actual content; the cool stuff. This is totally on purpose. Side note: of course a lot of sales revolve around package design and presentation, this DVD takes the cake. In front of me was very well laid out menu system, beautiful colors, and simple text to help me choose which cool stuff to watch.

So what kinds of cool stuff are actually on this DVD? Everything cool! From break dancing to Frisbee tossing and from bar flair to gun slinging tricks, this DVD is jammed packed with all sorts of human tricks and show. Want to learn how to rope steer? How about learning pool from Mike Massey? What about skateboarding? Razor scooter tricks? The list goes on and on. I mentioned before that there was 9 hours of footage. Believe me, there is a LOT to go through! Mix that with a “How-To” guide and you have THE BOOK OF COOL.

What’s the drawback? Learning awesome, complex “stuff” from people who either can a) barely speak English in some instances or b) who have more fun showing off than actually trying to teach you something, can be really frustrating at times. For instance, the break dancing scene (you know me, I’m all over that). With my cardboard laid across my carpet, I pushed play… to be suddenly surprised by the lack of sentence structure and instruction I got. It seems as though break dancing is not in the cards for me. Though it was fun to watch, trying to cram that much knowledge with no instruction seems to be a little tough.

Bar flair, on the other hand, quickly got my attention. Who wouldn’t want to toss bottles like Tom Cruise in Cocktails? A Bar Flair World Champion appeared on the screen and showed you the quickest little tricks to impress anyone, with a simple twist-top beer bottle. I decided to save the vodka tossing for another time.

There you have it folks, simply put, an awesome DVD set for the curiosity in all of us. The set does come with a warning. These are professional and you shouldn’t try this at home until you are very comfortable with your skill level… or you just want to break shit. Hopefully at the Inetium Christmas Party, I can show off my “not-so-Good” break dancing style… mixed with a little “olives on a dagger” bar flair; ending the night with some pen spinning magic.

The DVD can be purchased on the website: http://www.bookofcool.com

Total with tax and shipping: $46.99

Have a great January… until next time.

So I conversed with Neil about it… and as usual, our conversation got interesting.

Mr. Good says:

Mr. Good says:
i could change the text though..
to some elite speak.. that would be hilarious

Neil says:

Mr. Good says:

down the tubes with a hacked bin file

Mr. Good says:
haha

Neil says:
heheh

Neil says:
i'll pwn your tv!

Mr. Good says:
what kind of a TV needs a 12mb firmware?

Neil says:

TV buying lesson

Rule #1:

Don’t buy a TV that is the same brand of another TV already in your living room.

You’ll be quite suprised when you hit the power button.
